NFL Rumor - May 7 "
Alex Barron in all likelihood has played his last game as a Ram. The Rams are close to sending Barron to Dallas for linebacker Bobby Carpenter, according to NFL sources. Barron is amenable to the trade and is looking forward to a fresh start with a high-profile playoff-caliber team. The trade cannot be made official until Barron signs his one-year tender with the Rams as a restricted free agent."

NFL Rumor - Apr 15 "
Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert says the team has had talks with the St. Louis Rams about moving up in the NFL draft to take quarterback Sam Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick. Heckert on Thursday said the Browns, who have the No. 7 pick, have been "'playing a little phone tag" but said they have talked with the Rams, who are expected to select the Oklahoma quarterback."

A source close to the situation confirms that DT Albert Haynesworth was part of the Redskins trade discussions, as first reported by Adam Caplan of Scout.com last night. The source said Haynesworth, who has clashed with the Redskins over workout regimen and other things, and has known controversy off the field, "wasn't a good fit" for the Eagles"

NFL Rumor - Apr 1 "
Yesterday, Chris Gocong signed his restricted free-agent tender. But that doesn't mean he'll be with the Eagles next season. An NFL source tells Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post that the Browns have had "preliminary discussions" with the Eagles about acquiring the outside linebacker. As you know if you are a frequent reader of MTC, my feeling is that the Eagles have never really found a way to use Gocong in a position where he could have success. And I don't see that changing here. He had one sack last season and four in the last three."

NFL Rumor - Apr 1 "
The Lions are interested in trading for Seahawks restricted free-agent guard Rob Sims, according to a published report. NFL.com is reporting that the Lions and Bears are pursuing the 6-3, 312-pound Sims, who has started 34 games in four seasons with the Seahawks, including 14 last season. Sims has been asked to away from the Seahawks facility during off-season workouts in anticipation of a deal, according to profootballtalk.com."

NFL Rumor - Mar 26 "
St. Louis coach Steve Spagnuolo joined the chorus of denial regarding reports that the Rams are close to a deal for Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb. Spagnuolo said Thursday while visiting the Cardinals spring training camp that ''there's nothing to that.'' Spagnuolo said ''at this time of the year, there are going to be all kinds of things. But no, there's nothing there.''"

NFL Rumor - Mar 26 "Teams interested in acquiring Donovan McNabb will have to part with a high draft pick to get him.
A person familiar with trade discussions involving McNabb told the Associated Press the Philadelphia Eagles will only consider a deal for the six-time Pro Bowl quarterback if it includes a pick among the top 42 in next month's NFL draft. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Thursday because the team doesn't comment on potential trades."

NFL Rumor - Mar 25 "
The Philadelphia Eagles are entertaining trade offers for all three of their quarterbacks but head coach Andy Reid signaled on Wednesday that a deal was unlikely. Eagles starting quarterback Donovan McNabb's tenure in Philadelphia has been packed with controversy, intense scrutiny and a constant overwhelming feeling of underachievement given the lack of a championship season."

NFL Rumor - Mar 25 The Rams have begun preliminary negotiations with the agent for Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford.
But before fans jump to any conclusions, executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff said he has had similar discussions with the agents for Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and even Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen.
"
All the people who are in the discussion (for No. 1 overall), we've talked to their agents," Demoff said. "We're really just comparing notes. Also, it may take some time, so we figured we'd get a head start."

NFL Rumor - Mar 21 "
Through an undistinguished quarterback named Charlie Whitehurst, the Broncos may have found the answer to their Brandon Marshall dilemma. Sign him. And trade him to Seattle. Whitehurst was the rarest of commodities this NFL offseason. Even though he has but one 13-yard completed pass in his NFL career, the San Diego Chargers' third-string quarterback not only held the clipboard long enough to became eligible for restricted free agency, he became the most sought-after RFA of the offseason.
....
Two weeks later, the Seahawks still have not submitted an offer sheet to the Broncos' star receiver. Their interest in Marshall remains. But because the Broncos slapped a first-round tender on the receiver, Seattle would have to surrender its No. 6 overall draft pick to get him.
Clearly, the Seahawks consider the No. 6 overall pick too expensive for Marshall, especially if they also have to appease him with a contract far greater than $8 million over two years. Try $50 million over five.
...
The Seahawks are players in the restricted free-agent market, though. Whitehurst proved that. And Seattle does have another first-round draft choice available, No. 14 overall, which it received from the Broncos in last year's draft.
The Broncos could take that pick for Marshall. Or perhaps the Broncos would take Seattle's No. 60 pick in the second round and one of their two fourth-round picks."

NFL Rumor - Mar 1 The Lions have spoken to the Chargers about a potential trade for cornerback Antonio Cromartie, the Free Press has confirmed. Kevin Acee, the Chargers reporter for the San Diego Union-Tribune, posted on his Twitter account that it’s “not a done deal” but he’s hearing Cromartie “could be a Lion soon.”

NFL Rumor - Feb 24 "
The Lions are shopping the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft, according to a report. Jason La Canfora of NFL.com says the Lions have been in contact with several teams regarding the pick. La Canfora attributes the information to a league source. Defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska Gerald McCoy of Oklahoma are considered the top two players available in the draft. ProFootballTalk.com suggests that if they trade down, the Lions would be wise to take offensive tackle Russell Okung of Oklahoma State."

NFL Rumor - Feb 24 "The Steelers might be concerned about having an unhappy Pro Bowl nose tackle on their roster next season. But, apparently, they are more concerned about making sure they at least have a nose tackle.
The Steelers are trying to work out a long-term deal to keep Casey Hampton from becoming an unrestricted free agent, but they will use the franchise tag on the five-time Pro Bowl selection if they can't, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has learned."

NFL Rumor - Feb 1 "
Dwight Freeney still hopes to play in the Super Bowl. His sprained right ankle might not allow it. A person close to the All-Pro defensive end told The Associated Press in an e-mail Sunday night that the ankle was "really bad" and it could inhibit Freeney or keep him out of the game. The person requested anonymity because the information was different from what the Indianapolis Colts said earlier in the day."

NFL Rumor - Feb 1 "
Snubbed by the Carolina Panthers since the end of the season, the agent for five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers is convinced his client will play elsewhere in 2010. Carl Carey said Sunday night the Panthers have "not made a single inquiry this offseason" regarding the impending unrestricted free agent. "And we don't expect to hear from them," Carey told The Associated Press in a phone interview, setting the stage for Peppers to become one of the top defensive players to hit the market in years ahead of a potential season without a salary cap."

NFL Rumor - Jan 28 "
Kerry Rhodes clarified two issues Wednesday: He wants to remain with the Jets, and he said the Jets want him back. But he stopped short of saying it will happen, fueling speculation they are haggling over a proposed pay cut. The veteran safety, still chafed by his temporary demotion in November, said he expects to speak with Rex Ryan over the next two weeks to finalize his status. Rhodes said they gave him the option of requesting a trade."

NFL Rumor - Dec 29 "
Just a little more than one year removed from competing to become the Ravens starting quarterback, Troy Smith has asked the team to trade him. According to the Twitter account of Ralph Cindrich (RalphCindrich), who is Smith's agent, Smith no longer wants to bide his time behind starter Joe Flacco. "Ravens QB Troy Smith, Ohio State alum, native + Heisman winner wants playing time," Cindrich wrote earlier Monday. "Ravens notified. Will seek trade after play offs, SB run.""

NFL Rumor - Dec 7 "Yes, he can drive you crazy at times. Yes, he can be mystifying and stubborn. Yes, he can get lost in the fog during games sometimes. All of that is true about
Andy Reid. So is this: He's going to be the Eagles' head coach as long as he wants to be.
Whether Reid's contract is extended today, this week or in January isn't important. It's going to happen - not just because it's the right thing for owner Jeffrey Lurie to do, but because it's the only thing."

NFL Rumor - Nov 20 "
Denver Broncos backup quarterback Chris Simms took snaps with the starters again Thursday, making it increasingly likely he'll start against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday in place of Kyle Orton, who hasn't practiced since spraining his left ankle last week at Washington."

NFL Rumor - Nov 19 "
The Buffalo Bills have contacted Mike Shanahan as a potential replacement for fired head coach for Dick Jauron, according to a report. ESPN.com, citing two NFL sources, reported that the Bills are trying to arrange a meeting with Shanahan, a two-time Super Bowl winner who coached the Denver Broncos from 1995-2008. Shanahan was fired after the Broncos failed to make the playoffs last season. He has said that he would like to return to coaching."

NFL Rumor - Nov 9 "
Tony Dungy says Michael Vick could potentially wind up in Buffalo, which he says previously discussed signing the quarterback.
Dungy has served as an adviser to Vick since the Super Bowl-winning coach retired from the Colts after last season. Now a commentator for NBC, Dungy confirmed during the pregame show Sunday night before Philadelphia hosted Dallas that the Bills and Vick "talked originally" when Vick was searching for a team after serving 18 months in federal prison for running a dogfighting ring.
The Eagles signed Vick to a $1.6 million contract for 2009, with a team option for the second year at $5.2 million. But he has played sparingly."

NFL Rumor - Nov 5 "
Wide receiver Devin Hester limped around the practice field Wednesday at Halas Hall, but he vowed to be on the field Sunday, when the Bears host the Arizona Cardinals. Hester suffered a sprained ankle near the end of the victory over the Cleveland Browns, and he could be back on the field today. ''I'm all right,'' Hester said. ''I'm going to play.''

NFL Rumor - Oct 29 "As commissioner Roger Goodell was defending the NFL's policies on concussions before Congress Wednesday, the Eagles were dealing with a head injury to Brian Westbrook and beginning the process of determining whether the star running back can take the field against the Giants on Sunday.
Since Westbrook has always been the most vital part of the Eagles' offense, it might be tempting to rush him back after his head collided with the knee of Redskins linebacker Rocky McIntosh on Monday night.
On his radio show Tuesday, Andy Reid said he was "counting on" Westbrook playing. Wednesday, however, he told reporters that Westbrook would not play until his series of week-long tests checked out, which Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder later affirmed"

NFL Rumor - Oct 27 "And simply put, the Browns are horrible.
On Monday, coach Eric Mangini was asked if he plans to bench Derek Anderson, the NFL's lowest-rated quarterback, for backup Brady Quinn or anyone else. "No," Mangini offered, shaking his head. So, you're sticking with him? Mangini nodded.
Anderson went 12 of 29 for 99 yards against the Packers, whose veteran cornerbacks shut down Cleveland's wide receivers and forced the Browns QB to throw to his backs and tight ends. Anderson has completed just 23 of 70 passes in the past three games and now has an overall 40.6 rating - nearly seven points behind the league's second-lowest ranked QB, Oakland's JaMarcus Russell."
