NHL Rumor - Jan 14 "Peppered yesterday with queries about his potential willingness to be dealt from the Maple Leafs, a defiant Kaberle insisted he has not been approached by general manager Brian Burke about being moved.
That has not stopped speculation about Kaberle’s, including suggestions that the veteran is poised to resubmit a list of potential teams he would accept being moved to. Kaberle said those reports are wrong. “(Burke) got the list last year,” Kaberle said. “"

Thrashers star Ilya Kovalchuk told the AJC on Wednesday that he is not frustrated by ongoing contract negotiations. Kovalchuk, who will become an unrestricted free agent after the season, also said he remains confident a deal will get done. “No, not really,” Kovalchuk said when asked if he was frustrated with the length of time that has elapsed. “I just try to focus on my game and my goal to make the playoffs. I don’t care about the contract situation. "Everybody goes through it. It’s not frustrating at all. … It’s not easy to sign a deal. Whatever it takes, we’ll take our time.”"

NHL Rumor - Jan 6 "Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey said his intention is to keep Tomas Plekanec beyond this season.
While admitting that the Canadiens are up against the salary cap, Gainey said: "We would like to keep all our good players and I think you have to mark Tomas Plekanec down on the list of players we would like to keep. There isn't only one player that we want to keep. There are a lot of different pieces to the puzzle. We'll work to fit them together before July 1."
The big problem is that the Canadiens have already committed themselves to nearly $45 million in salaries for next season and that doesn't include Plekanec, who's due for a raise from the $2.75 million he's earning this season, or any goaltenders."

NHL Rumor - Nov 6 "The style might not appeal to Peter Forsberg, but the substance of the Vancouver Canucks surely must. For the second time in three years, the National Hockey League team is pursuing the Swedish star who is trying to prevent his career ending prematurely due to chronic ankle and foot problems. Canuck general manager Mike Gillis confirmed his keen interest in Forsberg in an interview during Vancouver's gutsy 5-2 win here Thursday against the Minnesota Wild.
"First of all, he needs to find out if he can still play," Gillis said. "If he can, we're definitely interested. I've known his agent, Don Baizley, for a long time and I think we'd be on his short list if Peter decides he wants to play.""

The talk yesterday was that the Chicago Blackhawks might be looking to send the goal-challenged Leafs one of their extra forwards, since they will have both Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews joining them from the injured list soon. Patrick Sharp or Kris Versteeg are among the big-ticket players the Blackhawks may have to move to keep their future cap numbers balanced. Meanwhile, Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke, who had second thoughts about dealing Kaberle after a trade with Boston for Phil Kessel and a pick fell apart during draft week, said the Chicago report was untrue."

A day after saying he'd be patient with Matt Stajan in the role, giving he and Kessel some time to create sparks, Wilson put John Mitchell with Kessel and left winger Jason Blake. Wilson saw something in the closing minutes when Mitchell and Kessel were paired. "I like the way Mitchy played last night ... his speed matches up," Wilson said at the MasterCard Centre. "It's about finishing your opportunities. He's been on the ice for a lot of goals for (a better plus-minus than Stajan, who has two more points). I'm just experimenting, nothing more, nothing less.""

NHL Rumor - Oct 20 "The first question asked of forward Max Talbot was the last one he wanted to hear: Now that you have returned to Penguins practice, when might you play? "I'd like to say January just so people don't know and don't ask me that question all the time," Talbot said with a grin.
"It could be a month, month and a half. I'm just happy to be back on the ice with the guys." Talbot, who practiced in a red, non-contact jersey yesterday at Mellon Arena, had been skating on his own for a few weeks. He is recovering from surgery July 7 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder."

NHL Rumor - Oct 20 "Mike Modano was flying through a morning skate practice Friday and looking good, whipping shots on net, flipping backhand passes to teammates and skating with the natural stride that looks all too smooth for 39-year-old legs. And then it happened.
"I tried a one-timer from [Mike] Ribeiro, and it just fell apart," Modano said of a tweak to a rib injury that has kept him out since the first game of the season. And so the Stars center went from thinking he would be in the lineup Monday against the Kings to not knowing when he might return.""

NHL Rumor - Oct 19 "
During practice Sunday, line combinations were shuffled around by Coach Rick Tocchet, who broke up the successful trio of Stamkos between Ryan Malone and Marty St. Louis. That line has accounted for 13 of the team's 17 goals.
"We had one or two goals in the last few games. We're trending down. We're not playing well and we have guys struggling," Tocchet said. "Obviously I have to try to find a way to get Vinny (Lecavalier, who is still looking for his first goal) out of this slump. Maybe Marty can help him. But I still don't want to compromise what we're trying to do here."
Stamkos was paired with Malone and Steve Downie, St. Louis was switched to play with Lecavalier and rookie James Wright, while free-agent acquisition Alex Tanguay was moved to the third line with Jeff Halpern and Drew Miller."
