A Stellar Performance and a Farewell

A.J. Burnett pitched his 9th career shutout last night, to earn his first victory in a Blue Jays uniform. Burnett baffled the Washington Nationals batters all night, giving up only 6 hits and striking out 7 batters while walking no one. Of his 92 pitches that he threw, only 22 were balls. Burnett's stuff was nasty all night, and his fastball in the 7th inning was still at 97 mph.

The Josh Towers saga appears to be over. The 1-9 right hander was outrighted to Syracuse and removed from the 40 man roster. Ty Taubenheim will most take Tower's spot in the rotation on Saturday, but the Jays haven't ruled out calling up Dustin McGowan to make the start. Jays management is thinking that Taubenheim would be more effective out of the bullpen.

Pete Walker has activated from the 15-day DL.
