Barajas Jays New Catcher

Rod Barajas will be taking a physical today, and if he passes, he will be latest Blue Jay free agent signing and new number 1 catcher. The deal is reportedly for 2 years and somewhere around $6 million. It has been rumored for over a week that the Jays were intent on signing Barajas, so this should come as no surprise. This is not a big upgrade over Greg Zuan, but Barajas is a bit cheaper and is 31 years old. Zuan is reportedly looking for $7 million over 2 years, with both the Red Sox and Yankees interested.

The Jays are one of five teams who are pursuing second baseman Adam Kennedy, who is looking for a 4 year deal worth around $20 million. I think if the Jays end up signing him, it will be for at least $2 million more than he's looking for.

J.P. is looking to sign a pitcher soon, with Ted Lilly or Gil Meche the most likely. Randy Wolf appears to be ready to sign with the Dodgers. Mark Mulder and Vincente Padilla are two other options. I like Mulder, but he would be the riskier signing of the bunch as he's been hampered by injuries.
