It appears the Blue Jays are taking the slow approach with Gustavo Chacin's rehab. Chacin's sprained ulnar collateral ligament is similar to the injury that was plaguing A.J. Burnett. If the Jays follow the same recovery time frame that they did with Burnett, Chacin should be back in the rotation in early August if all goes well. There is no point in rushing Chacin back, sure it would be nice to have the number three starter back in the rotation, but they need him for the long haul.
Chacin's spot in the rotation was filled by Ty Taubenheim on Saturday and it appears that he will be starting on Thursday. There were rumblings that Dustin McGowan could be recalled to start and keep Taubenheim in the bullpen, but for now Ty will start. After the all-star break, this situation may change.
