When reading through some articles today, I came across this interesting one from the Philadelphia Daily News.
Leading up to the 2000 trade deadline, the Jays were looking to add some experienced pitching. The proposed deal was to the Jays acquire Pedro Astacio and Jose Jimenez. Those 2 at the time would have helped, but the players reportedly going the other way, would make trade look terrible years later. The Rockies were to get Chris Carpenter, Roy Halladay and Vernon Wells. The reason the deal apparently didn't happen, was because the Rockies ownership did not want to trade fan favorite, Astacio. I bet they'd like to have that one back.
We'll probably never know for sure if this is completely true.

Though, at the time..had they traded Carpenter to the Rangers, it would have been a good move.
Imagine Carpenter and Halladay in this rotation right now.
Goes to show..you dont give up on 1st round power pitchers.
