Daily Hoops Award 12-4-2007

The Julius Erving Award
Dwight Howard --- 18 pts, 23 reb, 3 asst, 8 FTM, 0 stl, 7 blk, 0 treys, and 5-10 FG%.....The beast had a field day against the Warriors undersized Al Harrington and beanpole Andris Biedrins.

The Luke Schenscher Award
Raymond Felton --- 0 pts, 2 reb, 3 asst, 0 FTM, 0 stl, 1 blk, 0 3 pointers, and 0-8 shooting…..Martell Webster was also pretty poor last night with 3 pts on 1-5 shooting, 4 rebs, & 3 dimes.

Daily Hoops Award 3-12-2007

The Julius Erving Award
Jamal Tinsley --- 29 pts, 7 reb, 7 asst, 6 FTM, 3 stl, 0 blk, 3 treys, and 10-20 FG%.....

The Luke Schenscher Award
Jameer Nelson --- 2 pts, 0 reb, 5 asst, 0 FTM, 3 stl, 0 blk, 0 3 pointers, and 1-9 shooting...

**The Luke Schenscher Award – For those that don’t know, Luke was a center out of Australia who played his college ball at Georgia Tech. I stumbled upon his game late last year watching a meaningless Portland game at a buddy’s house. “Who’s that tragic redhead?” I asked him. “Did you see how ridiculously uncoordinated he looked on that play?” We both agreed that he was so bad it was quite entertaining to watch him, and now, he’s immortalized here in the bozo award.

Daily Hoops Awards 11-30-2007

The Julius Erving Award
Baron Davis --- 27 pts, 5 reb, 8 asst, 8 FTM, 5 stl, 0 blk, 1 trey, and 9-14 FG%.....

The Adam 'Porn Stache' Morrison Award
Tie between the Knicks’ big men - Zach Randolph --- 4 pts, 3 reb, 0 asst, 2 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 3 pointers, and 1-10 shooting….and…Eddy Curry --- 4 pts, 3 reb, 0 asst, 0 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 3 pointers, and 2-11 shooting. The Knicks, aka the biggest joke franchise in sports for about 4 years running, lost by 45 last night at Boston. The score entering the 4th quarter was 82-41. I’d love to see how many times in NBA history a team entered the 4th quarter with only half as many points as its opponent – I’m guessing it’s single digits. How did the Knicks expect anything different than this disaster with the roster they put together? They start 5 guys whose priority is scoring – Marbury, Crawford, Q-Rich, Zach, & Curry. They have the highest payroll in the NBA, and yet not a single shot-blocker on the roster (Lee & Curry are tied at .57 blks/gm). It’s an entertaining train wreck to watch…what’s the over/under on how many more days Isiah remains the coach/GM?

Daily Hoops Awards 11-29-2007

The Julius Erving Award
Dwight Howard --- 39 pts, 16 reb, 1 asst, 15 FTM, 0 stl, 5 blk, 0 treys, and 12-17 FG%.....Jeez, the kid has certainly grown up this year! He has jumped up big in every major category this season – pts: 17.6 last year, 23.5 this; reb: 12.3 to 14.6; blks: 1.9 to 2.7….even FG% has jumped a bit, to 61.2 from 60.3. In his 4th year now, he has still never missed a game in his career, and even more amazingly, has started every one of those games, even though he came to the NBA straight from high school. He has also never averaged under double digits in rebounding, posting a career average of 11.8 per game. If you can’t tell already, I’m a big fan.

The Adam 'Porn Stache' Morrison Award
Ryan Gomes --- 3 pts, 2 reb, 1 asst, 1 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 3 pointers, and 1-3 shooting…..Memphis’ small forwards also had a doozy of a night, Rudy Gay and Mike Miller combining to go 2-14 for 12 pts, 3 assts, 1 blk, 0 stl, and 12 rebs.

NFL Week 12 Awards

The Johnny Unitas Award:
Brett Favre…31-41, 381 yds, 3 TD passes ,0 picks. What a revival season for the Hall-of-Famer! He’s on pace to set career highs in yards, completions, and passer rating at 101.5. And even more amazingly, he has the Packers at 10-1 heading into a huge showdown with Dallas this Thursday.

The Ryan Leaf Award:
Eli Manning…21-49, 273 yds, 1 TD, 4 picks. 3 of the interceptions were returned for TD’s. Eli is terribly inconsistent, but with Plaxico Burress not at 100%, he probably needs better WR depth as well. Will he ever justify a # 1 overall pick in 2004….my guess is no.

The Walter Payton Award:
Kolby Smith…31 carries for 150 yards, 2 TDs, 1 rec, 2 yds…LJ goes down, Priest goes down and out for good, and so the rookie out of Louisville gets his big shot and comes through huge, though it was against the Raider defense, horrible against the run. He plays the Chargers this week, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of damage he can do against a far better defense.

The Blair Thomas Award:
DeShaun Foster…9 carries for -5 yds, no TD’s, 2 catches for 16 yards. Last week a Trojan (Bush) got the Blair Thomas, this week it’s a Bruin. Foster is what he is at this stage of his career, a very average RB. The Panthers either need to give DeAngelo Williams a shot, or find someone else in the offseason to tote the rock 20 times a game.

The Jerry Rice Award:
Larry Fitzgerald…9 rec, 156 yds, 2 TD’s. Fitzy was big for the Cards in their loss to the 49ers last week, garnering his 2nd Rice of the year. New England’s Wes Welker was also big though, gathering in 13 receptions for 149 yds Sunday night, always getting open to help move the chains for the N.E. offense.

The Charles Rodgers Award:
Lee Evans…2 rec, 19 yds, 0 TD’s. Lee seems to either explode or do nothing, not a lot in between. The Buffalo offense can’t decide on who their QB is – Losman last week, Edwards this week – and that certainly doesn’t help the situation.

The Neon Deion Sanders Award:
Asante Samuel…The Patriots CB had two picks, the first one of which he scored the game’s opening TD on, the 2nd one which sealed the win for the Pats.

Daily Hoops Awards 11-28-2007

The Julius Erving Award
Kobe Bryant --- 35 pts, 8 reb, 6 asst, 10 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 1 trey, and 12-22 FG%.....and….Vince Carter --- 32 pts, 9 reb, 7 asst, 8 FTM, 1 stl, 0 blk, 2 treys, and 11-23 FG%....

The Adam 'Porn Stache' Morrison Award
Kirk Hinrich --- 4 pts, 0 reb, 3 asst, 0 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 3 pointers, and 2-7 shooting…..he also had 4 fouls and 2 turnovers in just 16 minutes. He was benched due to a horrible play where he had a breakaway lay-up, no Hawks near him, but he made a no-look, behind-the-back bounce pass to Joachim Noah who was trailing, but clearly not at all expecting a pass. Noah fumbled the pass, the Hawks got the ball, and Kirk got the pine…pretty funny stuff.
