Daily Hoops Awards for Nov 20th 2009

The Akeem Olajuwon Award:
Pau Gasol --- 24 pts, 13 reb, 3 asst, 6 FTM, 0 stl, 1 blk, 0 threes, and 9-15 FG%...very nicely done in his first game back from the hammy strain. Teammate Kobe Bryant was also nice with 9 rebs, 8 assts, and 7 FTM, but was 7-21 from the floor. And over in New Orleans, Peja shocked the world with 25 pts, 13 rebs, and 7 treys...wow!

The Yinka Dare Award
Michael Finley --- 0 pts, 1 reb, 0 asst, 0 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 0-6 shooting...Hey Michael...walk into Pop's office, hand him your uniform, and tell him it's been a fun 15 years, but you're done, and you'd rather not continue embarassing yourself. In 10 games this year, at 19 min/gm, Finley has 14 total rebs, 8 dimes, 2 stls, 1 blk, 3 free throws, and 1 point less than Brandon Jennings scored last Sat night. GIVE IT UP!! YOU"RE DONE!!

Daily Hoops Awards for Nov 19th 2009

The Akeem Olajuwon Award:
Dirk Nowitzki --- 41 pts, 12 reb, 0 asst, 10 FTM, 0 stl, 1 blk, 1 threes, and 15-29 FG%...tough time determining the Olajuwon today...Brand had a double-double with 6 blks & 3 stls (finally a decent game from him!), Joshua Tree had another large performance w/ 16, 14 reb, 7 dimes, 2 blk, 2 stl...and Larry Hughes was fat with 22, 10 reb, 7 dimes, 7 FTM, 3 stl, and 3 treys. CD R was also large w/ 31, 10 reb, 12 FTM, and 3 stls. And remember my comment re: Dare winner Terrence Williams yesterday? Ter-Will is actually a ray of hope for them, as this very athletic, Andre Iguodala-type G/F has had some nice games for them before this stinker. Well he came thru w/ his 4th double-double of the year last night - 20 pts, 10 reb, and 4 stls...but alas, the Nets lost again, and are now just 5 gms from tying the record for most consecutive losses to open a season.

The Yinka Dare Award
Mike Conley --- 1 pts, 2 reb, 2 asst, 1 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 0-4 shooting with 5 fouls in 15 minutes...he seemed to be 'getting it' in the 2nd half of the season last year, but has TOTALLY regressed so far this year. He is averaging 8 pts, 5 dimes, 2 rebs, under 1 stl, and shooting 37% after 11 games....ouch!!! Danilo Gallinari was also pretty bad, missing both his shot attempts, grabbing 2 rebs, and then posting all goose eggs in 16 invisible minutes.

Daily Hoops Awards for Nov 18th 2009

The Akeem Olajuwon Award:
Nene Hilario --- 20 pts, 10 reb, 5 asst, 4 FTM, 4 stl, 4 blk, 0 threes, and 8-13 FG%...here's some trivia, his real name Maybyner, he was drafted as a 19 yr old in 2002 by the Knicks, 7th overall, then traded along with Marcus Camby to the Nuggets immediately for Antonio McDyess. McDyess never did anything for the Knicks, and the Knicks have not won a playoff game since then. Also, Nene survived testicular cancer less than 2 years ago. Lebron was also large last night with 31, 12 dimes, and 8 FTM.

The Yinka Dare Award
Terrence Williams --- 7 pts, 2 reb, 0 asst, 1 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 3-7 shooting...things are pretty grim in New Jersey these days with 2 Nets starters injured (Devin Harris, Yi Jianlan) and an 0-11 record. The Nets have to lose 6 more games to tie the record for losses to begin a season (Miami & The Paper Clips both lost 17 straight). Ter-Will is actually a ray of hope for them, as this very athletic, Andre Iguodala-type G/F has had some nice games for them before this stinker.

Daily Hoops Awards for Nov 17th 2009

The Akeem Olajuwon Award:
Josh Smith --- 20 pts, 16 reb, 2 asst, 4 FTM, 2 stl, 2 blk, 0 threes, and 8-14 FG%...I watched the OT and he had one awesome, pure leaping ability rebound, as well as a clutch, pure athleticism rebound later. The Joshua Tree has really stepped his game up this year, focusing on what he does best - rebound, play help D, dish, and get out on the break...and no more shooting 3's. Brandon Jennings had another solid night, too, leading the Bucks with 25 pts, 8 dimes, 7 rebs, and 4 3's.

The Yinka Dare Award
Jamal Crawford --- 6 pts, 0 reb, 1 asst, 2 FTM, 1 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 2-10 shooting, in 26 ugly minutes...and... Tyson Chandler --- 2 pts, 4 reb, 0 asst, 0 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 1-3 shooting...he also had 5 fouls in only 24 minutes...is Tyson playing hurt or does he just totally suck now? He's averaging 6 pts, 6.7 rebs, and 1.1 blks while shooting 46.2% after 10 games this so far...ugly!! Jamal has actually been playing well this year until this performance.

Daily Hoops Awards for Nov. 16th 2009

The Akeem Olajuwon Award:
Kevin Durant --- 40 pts, 8 reb, 1 asst, 10 FTM, 1 stl, 2 blk, 2 threes, and 14-25 FG%...Durant's strong night in a losing effort beat out a nice bounceback game from Amare - 30, 8 reb, 10-15 FG%...but the real news over the weekend was the performance by Brandon Jennings in a win over the Warriors Sat night. After scoring 0 pts in the 1st quarter, and then going into halftime w/ just 10 pts on 4-13 shooting, the ultra skinny (looks barely 160 lbs, 6 feet tall), lightening quick rookie exploded in the 3rd quarter, scoring 20 pts in the first 7.5 minutes, eventually 29 in the quarter, and then 16 in the 4th to end up with 55 on the night. As far as rookie PG's go, only Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe scored more in a game, 56 pts, back in 1968. Wilt's rookie record of 58 barely survived as well. I watched the entire 2nd half, it was right up there with the best performances I've ever seen.

The Yinka Dare Award
Ben Gordon --- 5 pts, 1 reb, 2 asst, 3 FTM, 1 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 1-16 shooting, in 40 minutes...wow...15 misses in 16 attempts!! As good as Jennings was Sat night, Ben G might have been just as extremely poor Sunday night. I'm still wondering why Detroit cleared all that cap space a year ago for this undersized SG and a perimeter-oriented big man in Charlie Villanueva.

Daily Hoops Awards for Nov 13th 2009

The Akeem Olajuwon Award:
Lebron James --- 34 pts, 4 reb, 7 asst, 16 FTM, 2 stl, 1 blk, 2 threes, and 8-20 FG%...Lebron was typical Lebron last night, while Wade was typical Wade as well in the same game - 36, 5 asst, 15 FTM, 3 treys, 2 blks...Bynum was also nice in his first game back from a sore elbow tendon - 26, 15, 3 blks, 13-18.

The Yinka Dare Award
Amare Stoudamire --- 8 pts, 5 reb, 0 asst, 4 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 2-15 shooting...and.. Jason Richardson --- 5 pts, 3 reb, 0 asst, 1 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 2-9 shooting...wow, the poor are getting poorer...last place Marmageddon has two of his top 6 picks going on a 2 game night, something to get excited about...and they combine to shoot 4-24, 0 dimes, 8 boards, and fat 0's in stls, blks, & 3's...OUCH!! And how does a big man go 2-15 from the floor?? If you want my take on the Byron Scott firing, check my blog...
