Daily Hoops Awards for Dec. 31st

The Elgin Baylor Award
Chris Paul --- 15 pts, 10 reb, 16 asst, 7 FTM, 1 stl, 0 blk, 0 3's, and 4-10 FG%...and... Jason Kidd --- 14 pts, 7 reb, 16 asst, 2 FTM, 4 stl, 1 blk, 2 3's, and 5-11 FG%...Two of the top 10 PGs of all time shined brightly last night, one in his prime and the other in his 15th year in the league...amazing longevity from Kidd.

The Erick Lecknar Award
Kevin Garnett --- 17 pts, 8 reb, 2 asst, 3 FTM, 1 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 7-15 shooting...Yes, there were worse statistical nights, but this is KG and these are the Celtics, who lost for the 3rd time in 4 games. KG - you used to be a statistical monster...what's up? Yes it's your 14th year, and yes you have lots of help on this team, but you're only 32 and if the team is struggling, it's upon you to step up and lead them out of their funk. I stand by my Speedburner blog during the playoffs last year - this team is getting old fast, has very little depth, and a murky future.

Daily Hoops Awards for Dec. 30th

The Elgin Baylor Award
Stephen Jackson --- 30 pts, 7 reb, 7 asst, 10 FTM, 2 stl, 2 blk, 2 3's, and 9-20 FG%...S-Jax has had a pretty solid year so far, averaging a career best 5.9 asst and 4.7 FTM, though still can't shoot straight (38.7% this year, career 41.6% shooter)...

The Erick Lecknar Award
Carmelo Anthony --- 16 pts, 4 reb, 3 asst, 7 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 1 trey, and 4-17 shooting...the poor shooting percentage really stands out, with Melo shooting a career worst 42.4% this year, a huge drop from the last 3 years of 48.1% (05-06), 47.6% (06-07), and 49.2% last year.

Daily Hoops Awards for Dec. 29th

The Elgin Baylor Award
Lebron James --- 33 pts, 6 reb, 9 asst, 7 FTM, 0 stl, 1 blk, 2 3's, and 12-19 FG%...Helped bring the Cavs back from an 8 point 4th quarter deficit with 8 minutes to go against Miami.

The Erick Lecknar Award
Brad Miller --- 7 pts, 3 reb, 1 asst, 3 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 2-6 shooting...His teammates Beno Udrih (4 pts, 3 asst, 2-6, 0 stls) and John Salmons (11, 1 reb, 0 asst, 0 stl) were also pretty awful in a blowout loss to the west coast weary Celtics.

Daily Hoops Awards for Dec. 24th

The Elgin Baylor Award
3-Way Tie today...3 outstanding performances that were too tough differentiate... Dwyane Wade --- 32 pts, 8 reb, 8 asst, 6 FTM, 3 stl, 3 blk, 0 3's, and 13-25 FG%... Tony Parker --- 36 pts, 4 reb, 8 asst, 10 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 3's, and 13-17 FG%... Emeka Okafor --- 29 pts, 18 reb, 4 asst, 9 FTM, 1 stl, 3 blk, 0 3's, and 10-15 FG%...

The Erick Lecknar Award
Greg Oden --- 0 pts, 2 reb, 0 asst, 0 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 0-1 shooting...He also had 5 fouls in only 8 minutes...can we call him a bust yet? He's averaging 7.7 pts, 7.3 reb, and just 1.4 blks in 22 min/gm this year...It's certainly getting close to bust status...

Daily Hoops Awards for Dec. 23rd

The Elgin Baylor Award
Kobe Bryant --- 36 pts, 4 reb, 3 asst, 5 FTM, 2 stl, 0 blk, 3 3's, and 14-23 FG%...Jermaine O'Neal was also nice - 23, 9 reb, 5 blk, 2 stl.

Andrea Bargnani --- 3 pts, 1 reb, 0 asst, 1 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 1-5 shooting...and he also had 5 fouls in just 14 minutes. After showing some brief signs of not being a total bust in November (12.4 pts, 5.3 reb, 1.6 blk, 44.9% FG)...Bargs has totally regained his complete bust status with the following 'stellar' numbers in December...6.5 pts, 3.3 reb, 1.0 blk, 28.3% FG...

Daily Hoops Awards for Dec. 22nd

The Elgin Baylor Award
Russell Westbrook --- 24 pts, 6 reb, 11 asst, 8 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 2 3's, and 7-16 FG%...The exciting, ultra-athletic rookie combo guard out of UCLA was originally thought to be too raw to contribute much in his first year, but Westbrook's learning curve has been steep, and he seems to improve on a weekly basis. Mike Bibby was also nice last night w/ 27 pts, 10-13 FG%, 6 treys, and 3 stls.

The Erick Lecknar Award
Wilson Chandler --- 2 pts, 1 reb, 2 asst, 0 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 1-7 shooting...The impressive, well-rounded 2nd year SF out of DePaul is still inconsistent, though usually doesn't put up stinkers like this.
