And Another Thing….
What the HELL were John Pohl and Bates Battaglia doing on the ice with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd period when they were down 3-2. And I'm guessing that the Lanky Antropov was lurking somewhere on the ice with them. Why was the 4TH LINE on the ice in a close game with not much time remaining. I thought they would want to score and tie the game. If the line was an offensive threat throughout the night, I could maybe see it, but they weren't. I was waiting for the camera to pan the Leafs bench to see if Pat Quinn had kidnapped Paul Maurice and taken over the coaching duties.

No Energy Displayed in Loss
And here I thought Wednesday nights game against Tampa was boring to watch. The Leafs did not look good at all last night in a 4-2 loss to Eddie Belfore and the Florida Panthers. They looked tired, sluggish and played with no energy. The grit that this team once had, is no longer there. There is no spark in this lineup other than Darcy Tucker. But you don't really want Tucker stirring it up too much, as he's one of the only forwards that is able to put the puck in the net. Once again last night, the scoring was lead by the defense. McCabe scored the Leafs first goal (it's about time he did something useful). Kaberle assisted on McCabe's goal, as well as Sundin's 6th goal of the year. In the last 4 games, the Leafs defense have scored 8 of the last 14 goals (the shootout goal is not included), 5 of them by Kaberle. The problem with this stat is that the Leafs forwards have only scored 6 goals in 4 games. That's TERRIBLE. If someone were to ask you if you thought that this Leafs team could win 3 of 4 with the offense only scoring 6 goals, you probably would laugh at them. I think I would have laughed at the suggestion of the Leafs defense scoring 8 goals in 4 games. This defense scoring pace is not going to keep up, so the forwards need to get things going quickly.
