Sundin Out 3-4 Weeks

Leafs G.M. John Ferguson was just on 'The Fan 590' and said that Mats Sundin will be gone for approximately 3-4 weeks with a slight ligament tear in his right elbow. Thankfully the elbow will not require surgery, which would probably have lead to a more significant amount of time missed. The injury occurred when he took a hit while circling the Flyers net, as I speculated in a previous post today. Ferguson didn't say who will take over the number 1 center spot. I think Wellwood will be inserted into Mats position centering Antropov and Ponikarovsky.

Kubina Looks Ready To Go

Pavel Kubina practiced again yesterday, while the majority of the rest of the Leafs had it off. So who will Kubina be paired when he returns tomorrow? McCabe and Kaberle, and the Gill and White combinations appear to be safe. According to Maurice, "We won't feel the need right now to alter the good chemistry going on, so chances are he'll be with Bell or Belak". This should be a no-brainer in my opinion. Belak needs to sit. Bell has played well lately, limiting his mistakes. He is a better skater and puck mover than Belak, which is needed in the faster paced NHL, especially during breakouts. Belak brings toughness, but he also brings stupid or bad penalties to the table.

Sundin Won’t be in the Lineup Against Boston

It appears that Mats Sundin won't be making the trip to Boston with the rest of his teammates for tomorrow night's game against the Bruins. Sundin suffered the mysterious 'upper body' injury during Monday's 4-1 victory. I'm guessing that the injury occurred when he was hit coming around the net in the Flyer zone. It looked like he took the brunt of it on his arm/shoulder, and showed an immediate reaction of displeasure. A better update on his status should be revealed later today.
