Leafs Take on the Hurricanes

Andrew Raycroft will be between the pipes tonight when the Leafs take on the Carolina Hurricanes.

None of the injured Leafs will be back in the lineup tonight. Rookie Erik Westrum will be playing in his second consecutive game since being recalled late last week. He played just over 3 minutes on Saturday.

Nik Antropov has skated the last couple of days but is still at least a week away from returning.

There is a chance that Alexei Ponikarovsky could return to the lineup on Saturday.

Kyle Wellwood isn't back on skates yet, as he continues to nurse a hip injury.

Darcy Tucker still isn't able to skate since cracking a bone in his foot, but should the be next to return to the lineup after Ponikarovsky, barring any set backs.

After tonight's game, 9 out the Leafs next 11 games will be on the road. This could be a make or break stretch for the Leafs quest in making the playoffs. The Leafs are currently holding down the last playoff spot but have played more games than almost all the teams that are trailing them. The 14th ranked team in the division, the Florida Panthers, are only 5 points behind (have played 1 more game than the Leafs.

Jeff O'Neill has scored 6 goals and recorded 6 assists in his last 14 games.

Alex Steen has 8 points in his last 6 games. Steen has been hounded the majority of the this season for not being able to put up similar numbers from his rookie campaign last year. Strange coincidence that since being moved up to play with Sundin that his numbers have improved. He played almost all of last season Sundin. It's hard to expect any sophomore to put up the same or better numbers when he's taken off the top line and rotated between the 2nd and 4th lines.
