Groundhog Day
For the 12th time in his career, Yanic Perreault is back in a Leaf uniform. As everyone has probably already heard, the Leafs acquired Yanic Perreault (3rd time) and a 5th round pick from Phoenix for a 2nd round pick and Brendon Bell. Did the Leafs overpay for the soon to be unrestricted free agent? Sure, but it's the trade deadline, everyone overpays. I don't really mind the fact that they picked up Perreault, but it's frustrating that they could have signed him in October for nothing. He was interested in coming back to Toronto, they weren't interested in him. He signed a one year deal for $700,000 with Phoenix.A second round pick is not a big deal, with the Leafs trade record of drafting and developing, it probably wouldn't turn out to be much. Brendon Bell was not going to get a chance to be a full time player for the Leafs. The Leafs have 4 veterans on the current roster, McCabe, Kaberle, Kubina and Gil that are going to be around for at least 2 more years. White, Colaiacovo, and Woznewski were ahead of Bell in the young prospect category. Staffan Kronwall is in the minors and he may be ahead of Bell on the prospect chart as well.
JFJ is ticked off at the Florida Panthers. The Leafs made a strong push for Gary Roberts, supposedly offering a 2nd and 4th round pick, and either Brendon Bell or Staffan Kronwall. Roberts was dealt to Pittsburgh for Noah Welsh. Fergie felt like the Leafs offer was much better.
No point of commenting on last nights beating at the hands of the Sabres.

Suglobov Placed On Waivers
The Maple Leafs have placed Aleksander Suglobov on waivers. It is not known if he'll be sent to the Toronto Marlies if he clears waivers. I doubt any team will pick him up as he's been unproductive this season. He is still fairly young, so there is a chance that someone might take a chance on him. Sublobov was held pointless in 14 games this season, was a minus 6 and averaged 7:25 minutes per game.

Leafs Add Green
The Leafs have just claim centerman Travis Green off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks. Green played with the Leafs from 2001-03. He played 2 seasons with the Bruins before signing with the Ducks in August. Green played in 7 games with the Ducks this season, recording 1 goal and 1 assist with a +3 rating.

Two Recalled
With the possibility of Kyle Wellwood and Alexei Ponikarovsky not being able to play tonight against the Blackhawks, forwards Ben Ondrus and Alex Suglobov were recalled from the Toronto Marlies. If both Wellwood and Ponikarovsky are unable to go, I don't see both Ondrus and Suglobov being inserted into the lineup. Wade Belak would most likely get the nod ahead of one of the two.

2 Sent to the Marlies
Jay Harrison was sent to the Toronto Marlies for a conditioning stint. Harrison will remain on the Leafs roster, therefore he doesn't have to go through waivers. Staffan Kronwall was also sent to the Marlies today. Kronwall has yet to appear in a Leafs regular season game this year

Leafs Clear a Roster Spot
With Pavel Kubina going to be activated from Injured Reserve this week, the Leafs got an early jump on clearing a roster spot for him as they sent Ben Ondrus to the Toronto Marlies. Ondrus was a prime candidate to be demoted as he did not need to clear waivers.

Tlusty Sent to the OHL
The Maple Leafs sent their 2006 first round draft pick Jiri Tlusty to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL. Tlusty had 3 goals and 1 assist in 6 games with the Toronto Marlies. The fact that he will be playing for the Greyhounds this season should not be much of a surprise for the 18-year-old. Starting the season in the AHL was the surprise, it's very rare for an 18-year-old. GM John Ferguson feels that Tlusty will be able to play more 'go-to-guy' minutes, than he was getting playing for the Marlies.

Tellqvist Sent to the Marlies
Mikael Tellqvist was sent to the Toronto Marlies yesterday for a conditioning stint. J.S. Aubin appears to have one the backup duties for Andrew Raycroft, which became apparent last week when Aubin had his first start of the season. Tellqvist started for the Marlies last night, losing in overtime 5-4.Former Toronto Maple Leaf, Nathan Perrott signed a tryout contract with the Marlies yesterday.

Big Signing in Leafland
Okay, the big signing is a little bit of an exaggeration. The Leafs signed centerman, Boyd Devereaux to a 2-way contract today. Boyd is more known for his defensive abilities rather than his offensive skill. In 509 career games, Devereaux has scored 46 goals and registered 85 assists. Last season he registered 22 points in 78 games for the Phoenix Coyotes. If he clears waivers, he'll be assigned to the Marlies after noon tomorrow. I would not expect him to play much of a role for the Leafs this season, but you never know.
