If you had never heard of Kris Newbury before this past Saturday night, you probably know who he is now. Newbury got into a third period fight with Pittsburgh's Ronald Petrovicky, took a few good shots in the head, and then crashed to the ice. After watching the replays of the fight, it appears that he was knocked out before the back of his unprotected head hit the ice. There was a pool of blood on the ice, and he was taken off the ice on a stretcher.
It was definitely a scary moment to witness. But it seems that everything is alright with Newbury and he is only listed as day-to-day. He is not experiencing any post concussion symptoms, and was riding a stationary bike yesterday. They will not rush him, keeping him out of the lineup for about a week. He is sporting a few stitches by his lip, and staples at the back of his head.
Petrovicky was concerned about Newbury, prompting Petrovicky to call him on Sunday. Newbury sees the incident as just an accident, and will not shy away from dropping the gloves in the future.
