You can all breathe a collective sigh of relief, Aki Berg is not returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs blueline. The already injury cursed Carlo Colaiacovo has switched his number from 45 to 8, in hopes of changing his luck. Apparently he hasn't followed the Maple Leafs these last few years to notice the bad luck that comes with the number 8. I guess you could say that Aki didn't have bad luck, he did suck millions of dollars from the Leafs, and in return, he helped the opposing team out. It was just bad for Leaf fans to watch him every game.
Bad luck has surrounded Colaiacovo ever since the Leafs drafted him in the first round. Injuries have derailed his promising career for the last 4 years. There is no doubting Carlo's talent, he's a smooth skater, good with the puck, and showed last year that he's not afraid to throw a body check. The problem with the latter is that he knocked himself out trying to throw a check. His knack for getting hurt raises the question, can he stay healthy enough to make an impact with the Leafs or with another team? Do the Leafs give up on him? He's still only a 23-year old defenseman, with plenty of upside.
Maurice reported earlier today that Colaiacovo probably won't be in the Leafs lineup tonight as they face the Atlanta Thrashers.
