Dodgers to Celebrate Veterans Day at Dodgers Stadium

On November 12, Veteran’s Day, the Los Angeles Dodgers will hold a batting practice event at Dodgers Stadium for more than 100 members of the military and military veterans. Among the veterans will include members of the Wounded Warriors, Operation Mend, Welcome Back Veterans, and Veterans in Film and Televisions representing all branches of the of the military.

Welcoming all of the members of the military will Dodgers Special Advisor Don Newcombe who served in the Army for two years (1952-53) and Congressman Xavier Becerra. Dodgers third baseman Luis Cruz will be at the stadium to chat with Veterans along with ex-Dodgers Tim Leary, Paul Lo Duca and Roy Gleason who also served in the Army and received a Purple Heart.

Dodger owner Magic Johnson will also be on hand to take photos.

Those in attendance will be able to hit some baseballs on the field, throw pitches in the bullpen, talk baseball with the former players and take a tour of Dodgers Stadium. There will also be a home run hitting contest with the first place winner being awarded “Veteran of the Game” on Opening Day next season.

The Event will run from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To kick everything off, however, Hall of Fame Manager Tommy Lasorda and Army Veteran  will be visiting patients at the VA Greater Los Angeles Heathcare System tomorrow afternoon.
