There would have been 13 games on the menu for Wednesday night but the Bulls/Pacers match-up was cancelled due to weather conditions. So instead, we’re recapping 12 games that went on in the NBA. Still plenty of action!
The Cavaliers took the lead after going on a 9-0 run late in the game. With the Wizards down three, Jordan Crawford failed to send the game into overtime after missing a three. Cleveland won their second straight game for the first time this season while Washington lost their eighth straight game. Kyrie Irving had 26 points.
The Bobcats were down by 19 but had a spirited comeback in the fourth quarter. However, it fell short after Shane Battier and LeBron James made back-to-back three-pointers. The Cats lost their 16th straight game while the Heat won their sixth straight. James went for 27 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and two blocks.
Ryan Anderson returned to Orlando for the first time as a member of the New Orleans Hornets. Greivis Vasquez made a short clutch shot with over a minute left and the Magic couldn’t get off a good shot to send the game into overtime. Robin Lopez went for 29 points and Vasquez had 27 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. The Hornets snapped their 11-game losing streak.
The Hawks were up 22 early in the fourth and had the game seemingly in hand but the Pistons furiously came back and even took the lead at one point with an Austin Daye three-pointer with four seconds left. Al Horford had a chance to win it in regulation with foul shots but missed the second of two. Finally, in the second overtime, Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver put the Pistons away with three-pointers. Josh Smith finished the game with 31 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks.
The Bucks had a big second quarter and easily put away the slumping Nets. Brandon Jennings had 25 points while Monta Ellis had 20 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. Deron Williams did not play for Brooklyn that night.
Philly pulled away in the fourth quarter and upset the Grizzlies on the road. Dorell Wright, who hadn’t done much of anything this season, started for the Sixers and had 28 points. Spencer Hawes came off the pine to score 20 points, grab nine rebounds, get three steals, and swat five shots.
The Rockets were down by as many as 14 points but came back on the road after James Harden made back-to-back buckets at the end of the game. Alexey Shved missed a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer. Harden had 30 points to lead Houston. The Rockets have now won five straight.
The Raptors had their five-game winning streak shattered after they got blown out by the Spurs in San Antonio. Tim Duncan led a balanced attack with 15 points and six rebounds.
Dwight Howard got ejected after a Flagrant Two foul on Kenneth Faried and a bad defense turned worse enabled Denver to keep pouring on the points and stop the Lakers’ five-game winning streak. Corey Brewer came off the bench to score 27 points. Kobe Bryant scored 40 in a loss.
Mo Williams didn’t play in this game. The Jazz never got it going and couldn’t stop Stephen Curry, who had 23 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Andris Biedrins rose from the dead and had 12 rebounds.
Sebastian Telfair stepped out of bounds with one second left. The Knicks then inbounded the ball to J.R. Smith, who drained an off-balance 21-footer at the buzzer. Smith led the Melo-less Knicks with 27 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Jared Dudley had a career-high 36 points for Phoenix.
The Kings had no DeMarcus Cousins and fell easily to the Blazers. LaMarcus Aldridge led the way with 28 points and 12 rebounds.
