In our debut edition of the NBA Play Of The Week, we go to the very entertaining JaVale McGee of the Denver Nuggets. Even though I personally didn’t choose this as the “Play of the Day”, the panel chose this one for “Play Of The Week.” I can’t exactly blame them. This is a great choice because of its creativity and its awesomeness. After all, we did a separate entry for this play alone earlier in the week.
This happened in Wednesday’s game between the Denver Nuggets and the Houston Rockets. JaVale McGee got stuck inside as Omer Asik from the Rockets was all over him. But then McGee was able to fake out Asik. After Asik jumped, McGee didn’t really have a good angle for the shot so he threw the ball off the glass and caught it for a powerful one-handed jam. Creative indeed and it reminded us of the Tracy McGrady dunk from the All-Star game.
What may be even better was the celebration. McGee had this funny look. And then put his finger over his lip, basically making a fingerstache. As much as we make fun of McGee’s follies, he’s certainly one of the more entertaining players in the league.
The Nuggets would go on to beat the Rockets, 105-95. But it’s that McGee play and celebration that we’ll all remember the most.
