Derek Carr Gets ‘Emotional’ Talking About Love For Raiders Organization

The Oakland Raiders managed to pull out yet another clutch victory thanks to a game-winning drive led by quarterback Derek Carr to beat the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football.

Although the Raiders were coming off a short week following their close call with the Detroit Lions in Week 9, they still had more than enough left in the tank to secure the 26-24 victory after Carr helped coordinate a 10-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in an 18-yard touchdown run from running back Josh Jacobs.

The Chargers had a chance to respond by potentially kicking a game-winning field goal, however, the defense was able to put the nail in the coffin with an interception from safety Karl Joseph. It is safe to say that the victory was a bit overwhelming for Carr after completing 21-of-31 pass attempts for 218 yards and a touchdown.

Carr admitted that it was nice to see Oakland get a win in front of the home crowd thanks to their team effort, and expressed his love for the Raiders organization, via Fox Sports:

“I just love this team, I love this organization so much,” Carr said. “I get emotional talking about it because I’ve been through so many highs and lows in this place. These fans have stuck with me the whole way and it’s a lot of fun to win in front of them. The way we did it too against a tough defense, to go down on a two-minute drive. You look at last week, they did the same thing to us that they did to the Packers. That’s a top-5 defense in the league and to win the game on a run play, I just love that for our offensive line.”

Carr’s comments are certainly understandable considering all that he has been through with this team since he started his career. He has enjoyed all the highs and lows that come with playing for one of the most high-profile teams in the NFL from his run as a former potential MVP candidate that led his team to the playoffs to dealing with speculation about his status as the franchise quarterback amidst their recent changes.

Fortunately, Carr feels this team is finally approaching the light that was at the end of the tunnel during their tumultuous rebuild. The Raiders now find themselves in control of their own destiny at 5-4 heading into the postseason.

It is clear that giving the fans in Oakland one last good season of competitive football has become an important task for Carr, although there is still a ways to go to get that done.
