Lamarcus Joyner Impressed With Raiders’ Ability to Have ‘Short-Term Memory’ And Learn From Mistakes

After successfully opening up the 2019 NFL season with a win over the Denver Broncos, the Oakland Raiders fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.

Reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes showed why he is the best quarterback in the league as he often found receivers streaking downfield throughout the game, particularly in the second quarter when he had four touchdown passes.

Lamarcus Joyner, one of the new additions to a young Raiders secondary, had his hands full trying to corral some of the Chiefs’ receivers throughout the afternoon but it did not matter as Mahomes was simply surgical with some of his throws.

However, Joyner and the rest of the secondary seem to have already moved on from the loss and are preparing for their Week 3 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, according to Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area:

“Everyone is positive, and I love it,” Joyner said. “That’s what you need. You have to have a short-term memory, especially as a defensive back. My job is to get right back at it, even after you give up a catch or a big play. The mindset we have in moving forward quickly, learning from our mistakes while preparing for the Minnesota Vikings is a good sign.

“That has been phenomenal.”

The Raiders boast one of the youngest rosters in the league and several of their recent draft picks have already been thrust into key roles on both sides of the ball. While the Silver and Black are clearly rebuilding, it is encouraging to hear Joyner say that they have already learned to quickly move on from difficult losses.

Although the Chiefs exposed some of the deficiencies in the Raiders defense as the game went on, there were some moments that they could hang their hats on. However, it is clear that there is still plenty of work to do if the team hopes to string together some wins throughout the year.

It does not get any easier for Oakland as they now head on the road for Week 3 to take on a Vikings team that is reeling from a Week 2 loss of their own. Hopefully, Joyner and the defense come out strong and prove they learned from their mistakes.
