Looking to revamp their defense, the Los Angeles Rams signed star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a one-year contract last offseason to help clog the middle of the line along with Aaron Donald.
The contract was a ‘prove it’ deal for both sides as Suh had shown signs of regressing in his previous season with the Miami Dolphins, which led to him being released. So that was an opportunity for him to help the Rams improve their defense while again establishing himself as one of the dominant forces in the NFL before hitting free agency again this offseason.
Suh had an up-and-down season with the Rams, but really found his form in the postseason and was a big reason Los Angeles was able to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 2001.
It became clear at the beginning of this offseason that the Rams were not planning on bringing Suh back, and his free agent market never materialized like he had hoped.
Suh has finally found a new home though as according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, he is signing a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are finalizing a one-year deal, a source tells ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Buccaneers recently released a star defensive tackle of their own in Gerald McCoy, so Suh should help fill the void that he left. Suh was drafted No. 2 overall by the Detroit Lions in 2010 and McCoy was right behind him at No. 3.
Suh appeared in all 16 regular-season games for the Rams a season ago, recording 59 total tackles, four tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. The five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro also had two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in the Ram’s three postseason game.
To help replace Suh, the Rams selected former Washington defensive tackle Greg Gaines in the fourth round in the 2019 NFL Draft. Los Angeles also signed veteran pass rusher Clay Matthews, which could shift Michael Brockers to the inside at times as well.
