NFL Rumors: Former Raiders Wide Receiver Antonio Brown Agrees To Sign With Patriots

The Oakland Raiders made one of the blockbuster moves of the offseason, acquiring star wide receiver Antonio Brown in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Raiders never saw how that acquisition would work out for them as Brown caused nothing but drama in his time with the organization, leading to him being released on Saturday morning.

Brown being released ensured that the Raiders did not have to pay him his $30 million in guaranteed money, but it also made Brown a free agent, giving him the ability to sign with a team of his choosing.

It did not take long for Brown to find a new home as Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that he has agreed to a contract with the New England Patriots:

Antonio Brown has agreed to terms with the Patriots, per source.

It will be a one-year contract worth $15 million, so Brown will be able to recoup a lot of the money he lost by not playing for Oakland:

Antonio Brown and the Patriots reached agreement on a 1-year deal worth up $15 million that includes a $9 million signing bonus, per source.

The move doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has brought in plenty of controversial receivers in the past, including Randy Moss, Chad Ochocinco and most recently Josh Gordon.

This entire Brown situation has been a huge gut punch to the Raiders, who are coming off a 4-12 season and were hoping to get back in postseason contention this season with a true No. 1 receiver.

That will no longer be the case though as Brown will now be playing for another AFC team, the reigning Super Bowl champions in New England with Tom Brady throwing to him in what has certainly been a stunning turn of events.
