NFL Trade Rumors: Raiders Acquire Wide Receiver Zay Jones From Bills For 2021 Fifth-Round Pick

Since the start of the season, the Oakland Raiders wide receiving corps has constantly been in flux due to injuries and Antonio Brown surprisingly being released just before Week 1.

The big loss other than Brown has been Tyrell Williams, who has been the team’s No. 1 receiver but missed their Week 5 contest against the Chicago Bears. Oakland was able to win the game, but they clearly were missing their vertical threat in Williams.

One addition that has been solid to this point is Trevor Davis, who was acquired in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. He adds a much-needed speed element to the Raiders offense.

It appears the Raiders are bringing another wide receiver into the organization as Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that they have acquired Zay Jones from the Buffalo Bills for a 2021 fifth-round pick:

Jones was a second-round pick of the Bills in 2017 out of East Carolina although he has not panned out how they had hoped. In 36 career games, he has 90 catches for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns.

His best season was in 2018 when he posted career-highs across the board with 56 catches for 651 yards and seven touchdowns. He hasn’t been able to match that production this season though as he only has seven receptions for 69 yards without a touchdown in five games.

It is unclear how serious Williams’ injury is, but if he is not back after the bye then Jones provides the Raiders with a viable deep threat. Acquiring him now also gives him two weeks to learn the playbook before the Raiders take on the Green Bay Packers in Week 7.
