NFL Trade Rumors: Raiders To Acquire Wide Receiver Trevor Davis From Packers

With the Oakland Raiders set to square off against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3 of the 2019 NFL season, it appears they have bolstered their wide receiving corps.

It is no secret that the Raiders have been in desperate need of some much-needed depth at the receiver position following the departure of Antonio Brown. They made headlines with their decision to bring back hometown favorite Keelan Doss.

Regardless, it has become evident through the first two games of the season that the offense could certainly make do with some more firepower for quarterback Derek Carr. It seems they managed to shore up a potential weapon on offense and special teams.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Raiders have acquired wide receiver Trevor Davis from the Green Bay Packers.

It has since been revealed that Oakland gave up a sixth-round pick for Davis, via Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune:

Like Doss, Davis is another Bay Area native looking to make the most of his new opportunity in Oakland. It seems the two will now be competing for a role in the receiving corps moving forward.

Davis had initially been taken by Green Bay in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The former Cal product struggled to find his footing in the Packers’ offense after hauling in a mere nine receptions for 122 yards during that time.

Fortunately, the 26-year-old has made his bones as one of the most electrifying returners in the entire league. He currently boasts an average of 22.6 yards per kick return and had been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week during Week 14 of the 2018 campaign.

Davis will have a chance to make an immediate impact on special teams after the Raiders’ primary returner Dwayne Harris suffered an ankle injury during Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Furthermore, he is already well-aware of what to expect from the Vikings’ special teams after squaring off against them in Green Bay last week.

It will be interesting to see if Oakland can also find a way to utilize his explosive speed on offense as a complementary piece to wide receiver Tyrell Williams.
