NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Florida Panthers
If only the Maple Leafs had known

Michael Traikos: Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said that had they known they’d be without injured defenseman Travis Dermott and Jake Gardiner before the deadline, they might have traded for some added depth on the blueline.

Michael Augello: “Injuries like Dermott occurring after the deadline, there is no way you can plan for them, but Gardiner, Rosen & Borgman were all hurt before 2/25, Holl had played 2 games, Ozhiganov had been idle for a month & Marincin is an unmitigated disaster on D.”

Michael Augello: “There is no way to know what depth moves were out there for Dubas, but the Jets got Nathan Beaulieu and the Blues got Michael Del Zotto for 6th round picks.”

Panthers would like to bring Sheahan back and he’s interested

George Richards of The Athletic: The Florida Panthers acquired Riley Sheahan on February 1st along with Derick Brassard from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brassard was moved at the deadline and Sheahan remained.

The Panthers would like to bring the pending unrestricted free agent forward back next season.

“We would like to sign them or else we would have moved them,” Tallon said of the likes of Sheahan and Troy Brouwer. “I’m real happy with Riley, he has played real well for us. He’s a piece we would like to keep.

“He’s a guy who brings a lot to the table, plays hard and can play up and down the lineup. He brings physicality, size and skill and is an aggressive player. I think those are some things we missed in the first half of the season.”

When asked about the possibility of coming back next season, Sheahan said “It’s a good possibility” and “Everthing is good here, and it’s a great spot to live. I think it’s a great fit.”

Sheahan adds.

“You hear rumblings and rumors and, in my situation, to a certain extent it (would have) made sense to be dealt,” he said. “But in speaking to Dale, in getting comfortable here and having some fun playing hockey, I realized it was a good fit for me. At the end of the day, I would like to stay here.”
