Raiders Injury Updates: J.J. Nelson & Corey Liuget Expected To Miss Week 2 Against Chiefs; Gareon Conley Expected To Play

The Oakland Raiders have been hit with the injury bug a bit to begin the season, which is not ideal with a big Week 2 matchup coming up this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Raiders rookie safety Johnathan Abram was recently placed on IR after suffering a shoulder injury in the Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos, so his first NFL season has already come to an end.

Gareon Conley also got injured that the game against the Broncos in what was a scary play that he got hit in the head/neck area. He has returned to practice though, which is good news as the secondary will need all the help it can get against the high-powered Chiefs offense.

Raiders head coach Jon Gruden gave an update on not only Conley, but also J.J. Nelson and Corey Liuget after Friday’s practice, and it looks like Conley is the only one expected to play this weekend, via Vic Tafur of The Athletic:

Gruden says JJ Nelson is out Sunday, DT Corey Liuget is probably out and CB Gareon Conley “looks good. He is a tough guy. Had a good week of practice.” #Raiders

On Friday’s injury report, Nelson is listed as out with an ankle injury whole Conley and Liuget (knee) and both listed as questionable. Liuget has been limited in practice all week though so it makes sense that Gruden is not expecting him to suit up.

With Nelson not being able to play, rookie wide receiver Keelan Doss will likely suit up and make his NFL debut for the Raiders against the Chiefs. The preseason standout was cut at the end of camp and wound up on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad but was brought back to Oakland after Antonio Brown was released.

It should be a memorable game Sunday for the Alameda native to likely make his debut in front of all of his friends and family.
