Raiders Video: Clelin Ferrell Promises To Give ‘Everything’ He Has Got

Controversy and confusion surrounded the Oakland Raiders as they headed into the 2019 NFL Draft. Doubts remained about the team’s commitment to quarterback Derek Carr and they had sent their scouts home before the draft.

When it came down to it, nobody really knew what the Raiders were going to do. One big hole remained on the team and that was in the defense.

By drafting Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell with the No. 4 overall pick, the Raiders made moves to fix that hole. Ferrell was apart of the championship Clemson defense and led the team with 11.5 sacks last year.

Many have criticized the move due to Ferrell’s inconsistency, but he promised to give the team ‘everything’ he’s got during this heartfelt moment on draft night:

“I promise — everything I got.”

Oakland is seeking to turn things around in what has been a rough few years. Carr has proven to be a reliable quarterback and the trade and signing of Antonio Brown should improve the offense further. As previously mentioned, the defense remained the biggest liability.

The addition of Ferrell and Mississippi State safety Johnathan Abram prove the team is working in a proper direction.

Ferrel will have some Clemson camaraderie on the team in defensive line coach Brenton Buckner. Buckner played defensive tackle for 11 years in the NFL.

Even more than his play on the field, Ferrell should help bring leadership to the Raiders locker room, which is something they have really lacked the last few years.
