Rams Highlights: Jared Goff, Cooper Kupp Help Team Cruise To Victory Over Saints

The Los Angeles Rams took on the New Orleans Saints in their 2019 home opener and came away with a 27-9 victory in the highly-anticipated NFC Championship Game rematch.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees was sidelined for nearly the whole game after being injured in only the third drive of the game, giving the Rams a golden opportunity to move to 2-0 on the season.

Despite a somewhat disappointing game for quarterback Jared Goff in Week 1, the young quarterback showed out in Week 2. After a couple of rocky plays to start the game, Goff snapped into action and delivered a huge 57-yard pass to Brandin Cooks. The play got the Rams into the red zone, but only resulted in a 24-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein. Zuerlein converted on one more field goal and all three of his extra points.

Goff put up another good series halfway through the second quarter, connecting on multiple first down completions. Unfortunately, Saints defensive end Cam Jordan forced a fumble on Goff as they neared the redzone. The Rams settled for two field goals in the first half, finding themselves up 6-3 in a quiet affair.

The second half was where the Rams really came alive. Goff finished the second half with 181 yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing as well. In total, he had 283 passing yards to pass the 10,000-yard threshold for his career.

Malcolm Brown and Todd Gurley both saw more action in the second half as well. Gurley seemed back to form after a strong 4-yard rush to notch the Rams first touchdown.

Brown had solid spurts, including a 12-yard run during the team’s second touchdown drive. Goff connected with Cooks once again for the Rams second touchdown on a 2-yard pass. Cooks finished the game with just three catches but had 74 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Goff delivered a few more spectacular plays before time expired, including a pass up the middle to Cooper Kupp, who took it 67-yards up to the Saints 1-yard line. Goff then ran it in to cap the game off and record the Rams last points.

Kupp finished with five receptions for 120 yards, coming up with big play after big play and can perhaps be considered as the player of the game. The Rams defense also deserves a ton of credit as well after earning two sacks and an interception of Brees by John Johnson III.
