Rams Video: Aaron Donald Serves As Honorary Falconer At LAFC Match

The Los Angeles sports scene has grown exponentially in the last four years. With the Los Angeles Rams returning home, the Los Angeles Chargers joining the mix, and the Los Angeles Football Club on top of that, it has been a great time to be an L.A. sports fan.

Recently, sports worlds collided when Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald was made the Honorary Falconer at LAFC’s match against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Donald went out at mid-field to release the bird into the stadium.

The Rams twitter shared video of the moment that Donald and his child shared on the pitch had to have been a really cool moment for him:

LAFC has three falcons that have more or less become the mascots of the club. Each falcon is named for a famous L.A. street: Olly (Olvera St.); Fig (Figueroa St.); and Mel (Melrose St.). Before each match, an honorary falconer releases the birds which chase a hunting lure with the crest of the opposing club.

The good luck charm seems to be working, as LAFC handily beat the Whitecaps 6-1. They are currently in first place for the entire MLS with their 13 wins and two losses. The Los Angeles Galaxy are currently in second place with 11 wins.

LAFC’s next match will be on July 10 against the Portland Timbers.

For Donald, it is good to see him enjoying his offseason before the team reports for Training Camp at the end of the month where they will begin their journey of returning to and winning the Super Bowl.
